Cancer

Cancer is extremely sensitive. They live in, and on, their emotions. They display a brave front to the world and manage to hide the uncertainty within them. Like their symbol the Crab, they scuttle away when they sense danger.

Cancer knows what it is like to be hurt. They feel miserably offended at the slightest criticism. They are often thin-skinned, imagining slights and insults where none was intended. They yearn to be respected and appreciated. No-one can ever seem to love them enough.

Deep, black moods are one of the prices Cancer has to pay for their hypersensitivity. They can get so far down in the dumps that it is sometimes impossible to coax them out until the emotional build-up has been worked out. In these moods they can be demanding of the people around them.

But their sensitivity has a positive aspect: Cancer is very understanding. A person in trouble pouring out his or her heart to a Cancerian feels truly understood. And their ability to relate emotionally to others is so great that Cancer can at times actually feel what the other person is going through.

Cancer is spasmodically active. When the pressure is on, they can wade into the work and get a lot done. But they are not the staying type. Dogged, unremitting effort leaves them exhausted and lethargic. They need frequent breaks from any prolonged physical or mental effort. Excessive pressure, which many other Signs regard as the normal strains of living, is something Cancer cannot stand.

They put on the toughest and bravest front possible. But at the first opportunity they scurry off to a quiet place where the pace is easy and undemanding, and the surroundings comfortingly familiar.

Cancer loves their homes. They try to make them as attractive and comfortable as possible, in keeping with their strong artistic leanings. They are very protective of their loved ones, so much so that they often make them feel stifled.

When you first meet a Cancerian you will probably sense a hardness, tetchiness and moodiness as they are always on the defensive. Being a Water Sign, and ruled by the Moon, they are powerfully psychic and have incredible, intuitive instincts.
